Of Mice and Men
by John Steinbeck
Welcome to your novel study unit for English 12. Before you begin, I suggest you print off both the poetry terminology and the expository writing criteria. Both of these resources will be crucial to much of what you do in this entire course. If you have problems printing them, let me know, but be sure you have this information. The poetry terms will be necessary for many assignments in all of your units, and the writing criteria will be used for all of your writing assignments. Once you have done this you may begin.
For inquiring minds I would suggest a little historical background to the setting of the novel. You may want to do research on: The Depression, Migrant Workers, The Dust Bowl, and the songs of Woody Guthrie. Although not mandatory, it will certainly enhance your understanding and appreciation of the novel. Enjoy and be sure to ask Mr. Di Ponio questions along the way should you hit any road blocks.
